They call it their “prom” at the Today Show, when the hosts dress up for their annual Halloween costume showcase. On Friday, Tampa featured prominently in the football-themed reveal with its 2021 Super Bowl-winning team and weird halftime show from earlier this year.

Hosts dressed up as Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and tight end Rob Gronkowski. They also paid tribute to the halftime entertainment by The Weeknd and that famous clip of the NFL championship Lombardi Trophy being tossed across the Hillsborough River.

They called it Football Fright in America.

Willie Geist and Carson Daly dressed up as Brady and Gronkowski, respectively, both in red Bucs jerseys. They did a short bit for a toss, Geist reached for the trophy and Daly, as Gronk, said, “No, remember what happened last time?”

The world cringed in February when Brady chucked the trophy from one boat to another during the Buccaneers’ floating Super Bowl celebration.

Al Roker stood in Friday for Tampa’s Super Bowl halftime headliner, The Weeknd.

Roker came out sporting a red jacket and black gloves like that worn by the star in Tampa. He lip-synched to The Weeknd’s hit, Blinding Lights, with the help of four back-up dancers wearing creepy masks like those worn during the Super Bowl show. Luckily, Roker didn’t find himself trapped in a hall of mirrors.
