Bucs second-year right tackle Tristan Wirfs has added another accolade to a postseason full of them, earning a spot on the Professional Football Writers of America’s All-NFL team.

Wirfs, who missed his first professional start Sunday with an injured ankle, also recently was named to his inaugural Pro Bowl and earned All-Pro status for the first time. He’s among 15 players who made the All-NFL team for the first time.

Veteran left guard Ali Marpet earned a spot on the PFWA’s All-NFC team for the second season in a row. Marpet, also recently named to his first Pro Bowl, told reporters Monday he intends to play in the Feb. 6 game in Las Vegas.

Wirfs, who turned 23 on Monday, was lost for the postseason when he injured his right ankle early in the 31-15 wild-card win against the Eagles two weekends ago. Despite reports Sunday that he was headed for surgery, coach Bruce Arians indicated Monday that may not be necessary.

“I don’t think that decision has been made yet,” Arians said. “He’s looking at his options; that’s one option. So, yeah, I haven’t talked to the doctors yet, but he is looking at two different options.”
