The American Athletic Conference has announced that USF's Sept. 28 home game against SMU will kick off at 4 p.m., and will be televised on ESPNU.

The contest will pit Bulls coach Charlie Strong against his former Texas quarterback, Shane Buechele. An SMU graduate transfer, Buechele started all 12 games for the Longhorns ― throwing for a UT freshman-record 2,968 yards ― in 2016, Strong’s final season in Austin.

MORE BULLS: Jordan McCloud’s debut among best by a USF QB

Meantime, Strong’s current QB, redshirt freshman Jordan McCloud, made the AAC weekly honor roll after totaling 273 yards and five touchdowns in Saturday’s 55-16 romp of South Carolina State. The five TDs are the most by a Bulls quarterback in his starting debut.

Additionally, Strong said senior tailback Jordan Cronkrite should be available for the SMU game after sustaining what appeared to be a right leg injury late in the first half against SCSU. Cronkrite exited on his own power, but didn’t play in the second half.

“I mean, we’ve got two weeks here to get him healed up," Strong, whose team has a bye this weekend, said Monday on the weekly AAC coaches teleconference. "It wasn’t nothing serious, but it just allowed us to let (Kelley) Joiner play some more, but he’ll be ready to go.”

A 5-foot-9, 180-pound freshman, Joiner finished with 64 yards on 12 carries, but gained 51 of those on a run in the final seconds. Joiner ran for more than 4,500 yards and 44 touchdowns at Groveland’s South Lake High despite missing most of his senior year with a broken leg.

“The thing about him, he’s such a shifty runner,” Strong said. “He’s very fast and...he can find a hole and hit the hole quickly. He’s not very big, and that’s the thing about him, just his size. But once he gets in the open field, he can break people down and run past 'em.”
