Less than five months after Connecticut’s move to the Big East was formalized, the American Athletic Conference has announced the 2020-21 football scheduling models for its remaining 11 teams.
For USF, that means home-and-home series with current East Division rivals UCF, Cincinnati, Temple and East Carolina remain intact, at least through ’21. Additionally, the Bulls ― like their league peers ― will face every other AAC team at least once during the two-year cycle.
The model, which features no divisional format, was approved unanimously by AAC athletic directors during their fall meetings last week in Philadelphia, commissioner Mike Aresco said.
“This scheduling model provides balance and competitive equity and will contribute to the exciting seasons to which we have become accustomed in the American Athletic Conference,” Aresco said in a league news release.
The only noticeable glitch: USF hosts Tulsa both years. The math involved with crunching the league schedule resulted in three instances where a game between two teams will be at the same site both years.
All the conference’s 2020 and ’21 schedules can be seen here. The procedures for determining the participants in the AAC title game haven’t been determined.
