As if USF’s matchup next September against former coach Willie Taggart weren’t intriguing enough, Bulls fans evidently will get two helpings of the same story line.
The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reported Saturday that Taggart is expected to hire another ex-Bulls coach, Jim Leavitt, as his defensive coordinator at FAU. Leavitt, architect of USF’s program before his ugly dismissal in January 2010, served in the same capacity for Taggart in his lone season at Oregon in 2017.
USF plays at FAU on Sept. 26. The Bulls never have faced one of their former coaches in a game.
Taggart, dismissed Nov. 3 as FSU coach after an abysmal 21-game tenure, was hired by the Owls to replace Lane Kiffin on Dec. 11.
