USF added some fleetness to its 2021 recruiting class Monday evening when Tallahassee Chiles two-way standout Jalen Herring announced his pledge to the Bulls.

A three-star prospect per 247Sports, Herring (5-foot-11, 175 pounds) becomes the Bulls’ 13th non-binding pledge from the class of 2021. A defensive back/receiver at Chiles, he was an honorable-mention selection on the Tallahassee Democrat’s All-Big Bend squad last season.

He made an even bigger splash in track, finishing third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.36 seconds) as a sophomore at the Class 3A state championships. That performance was preceded by a first-place finish (14.13) at the District 3 meet.

His Hudl bio indicates he has run the 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds.

“Jalen will never embarrass the program,” Chiles coach Kevin Pettis said.

“He will graduate, he will compete in every aspect of college life. Jalen’s character is beyond reproach; he’s the kind of kid you want marrying your daughter. It doesn’t hurt he can fly and has great ball skills.”
