USF’s women’s basketball program announced Sunday afternoon that its game against Stetson on Dec. 13 has been canceled due to COVID-19-related issues within the Hatters’ program.

“Unfortunately, our game with Stetson is off,” coach Jose Fernandez said in a team-issued statement. “I have unbelievable respect for (Stetson head coach) Coach (Lynn) Bria and her program. Safe return for their staff and players.”

The Stetson game was one of four non-conference matchups on the team’s schedule this season and will not be rescheduled. Without it, USF (1-0) is expected to play 23 games this season, having won against Jacksonville 84-46 on Saturday night.

USF will face No. 4 Baylor on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and No. 6 Mississippi State on Saturday at 7 p.m., both at home. The Bulls were picked to win the American Athletic Conference title in the preseason coaches’ poll.

USF’s men’s team (1-1) is still scheduled to play the Hatters at the Yuengling Center on Dec. 8 at 5 p.m.
