Bulls lose regular-season finale at Wichita State

WICHITA, Kan. — Tyson Etienne had 21 points as Wichita State extended its winning streak to seven games, topping USF 80-63 on Saturday.

Dexter Dennis had 14 points for Wichita State (15-4, 11-2 American Athletic Conference). Morris Udeze added 12 points and seven rebounds. Alterique Gilbert had six assists.

Michael Durr had a career-high 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Bulls (8-12, 4-10), whose losing streak reached four games. David Collins added 14 points. Xavier Castaneda had six assists.

The Shockers improved to 2-0 against the Bulls this season. Wichita State defeated USF 82-77 on Dec. 22.

Wichita State used a 12-2 run over the final 3:11 of the first half to turn a tie at 26 into a 38-28 lead. Durr pulled USF within single digits with a 3 on the Bulls’ first possession of the second half, but Wichita State answered with nine straight points to build a 49-31 advantage.

USF finished with 15 offensive rebounds for its seventh game of the season with at least 15, but it committed 16 turnovers.

The Bulls played without starting guard Caleb Murphy and starting forward Alexis Yetna.

Up next for USF: the AAC tournament in Fort Worth, Texas, a first-round game at noon Thursday against Temple.
