BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — More than two hours after the Birmingham Bowl's conclusion, USF sports information officials still were scouring their books to determine how many school records QB Quinton Flowers collected in his four seasons.

They had come up with 34 but were still counting. At any rate, Flowers set seven more records Saturday, not counting the American Athletic Conference total yardage mark he established.

Flowers finishes with 11,802 total yards, eclipsing the 11,439 of former Temple QB Phillip Walker. His 106 rushing yards gave him 3,672 for his career, breaking the school record (3,609) held by former teammate Marlon Mack.

Tied with Marquel Blackwell for USF's career touchdown passes record (67) entering the game, he tossed four Saturday. And his 30 wins as a starting quarterback ties Blackwell's school mark.

And here's the stunner: His game-winning 26-yard scoring pass to Tyre McCants gave him 2,911 passing yards for the season, tying the Bulls' single-season mark held by Matt Grothe.

Speaking of records

With his 64-yard TD reception in the fourth quarter, Bulls senior Marquez Valdes-Scantling set USF's single-season receiving yardage record.

Valdes-Scantling (three catches, 133 yards) finished the season with 879 yards, surpassing the 822 of former Lakewood High teammate Rodney Adams.

Meantime, senior D'Ernest Johnson collected 143 all-purpose yards and finishes his career with 4,186, breaking Mack's school record. Senior MLB Auggie Sanchez made his 50th career start, tying the program record held by George Selvie.

And PK Emilio Nadelman broke Delbert Alvarado's USF single-season scoring record with a 25-yard field goal in the first quarter, finishing the year with 115 points. Nadelman also exits with the best field-goal percentage (.796, 43-of-54) in USF history.

Odds and ends

The combined 1,110 yards amassed Saturday were a Birmingham Bowl record. … S Devin Abraham snagged his fifth interception Saturday and finished his career with nine, which ties Nate Allen for fifth all-time at USF. … The Bulls are 6-3 in bowl games and have won five of their past six. … USF improved to 2-3 all-time against the Big 12. … USF's seniors exit with 33 wins, one shy of the best four-year total in program history.
