1. One must wonder how Saturday's game affected Quinton Flowers' slim Heisman chances. Some voters may have written him off after the game's early slapstick (clearly not all his fault), only to watch him rally the Bulls before dusk even set in. Did the staggering comeback actually fortify his odds?

2. Bulls coaches threw us for a loop by starting junior Michael Galati at center and senior Cameron Ruff — last year's starting center — at right guard. Offensive line coach Matt Mattox had experimented with several lineups all preseason, but we don't recall seeing one with Ruff at guard.

3. The dreadful start notwithstanding, USF's defense provided its fan base with some glimmers of hope. The Bulls, gashed routinely on the ground last year, allowed 47 rushing yards in the first half and mostly got San Jose State off the field on third down (3-for-11). That said, it was San Jose State.
