Datsyuk line leads Wings past 'Canes

Published Dec. 8, 2014

RALEIGH, N.C. — Tomas Tatar and Pavel Datsyuk have been very productive for the Red Wings when they've been able to play on the same line this season.

Tatar scored two goals and Datsyuk had a goal and two assists to lead the Red Wings to a 3-1 victory over the Hurricanes on Sunday.

Petr Mrazek made 34 saves for Detroit, which has won three in a row and seven of eight.

"Obviously Pav's line was really good," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "They have speed and tenacity and the ability to score. All in all, they're a good line, but we should have more good lines.

"(Carolina) had 34 legitimate shots. … (Coach Bill Peters) had his team ready to play. They were organized and played fast."

Jay McClement scored for Carolina and Cam Ward stopped 19 shots in Peters' first game against his former boss and mentor. Peters was an assistant to Babcock for three seasons in Detroit.

Game highlights: Kyle Palmieri's shot past Ondrej Pavelec 53 seconds into overtime lifted the Ducks over the host Jets 4-3. … Erik Karlsson scored 1:21 into overtime and the host Senators broke a five-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Canucks. Ottawa scored four unanswered goals against goalie Eddie Lack to win.

Board of Governors meeting: No big expansion announcement will come out of a meeting of the 30 governors today and Tuesday in Boca Raton despite all the reports that have emerged, especially about a potential team in Las Vegas, ESPN reported. Expansion will be discussed but as an update on where things stand, ESPN said. The teams also will get a projected salary cap figure for next season.
