MINNEAPOLIS — Commissioner Rob Manfred said all 30 teams are being surveyed as they consider instituting league-wide guidelines for handling fans who make racist remarks like those at Fenway Park this week.

Manfred spoke Friday before the Twins hosted the Red Sox, who were at the center of the controversy this week after a fan directed racial slurs at Orioles CF Adam Jones. Another fan was removed and banned for life from Fenway Park the next day for making a racist remark.

Manfred said the goal is to make sure players feel comfortable in every ballpark.

Marlins sale

The competition to buy the Marlins is shaping up as a battle of former All-Stars. The latest to join the sweepstakes is four-time 20-game winner Dave Stewart, who has signed on with the group headed by Tagg Romney, USA Today reported. The Romney group, which also includes Hall of Famer Tom Glavine, is one of two frontrunners to purchase the team from Jeffrey Loria, along with a partnership headed by former Yankees captain and Tampa resident Derek Jeter and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

No suspension for Sale

Red Sox LHP Chris Sale will not be suspended by Major League Baseball for throwing behind Orioles 3B Manny Machado on Tuesday night in apparent retaliation during a testy series, ESPN reported. Sale threw a 98 mph fastball at the knees and behind Machado in the first inning, leading plate umpire D.J. Reyburn to issue warnings to both benches.

Human target

Orioles LHP Wade Miley was struck by two line drives in the first inning and removed from the game against the White Sox. After Jose Abreu hit Miley on the left wrist with a comebacker, the pitcher was examined by a trainer, insisted he was okay and stayed in. Two pitches later, Avisail Garcia ripped a liner that struck Miley in the back of the left leg.

Number of the day

152-0 Cubs' record, since 2015, in games in which they led by two or more runs entering the ninth inning, until the Yankees' 3-2 comeback victory Friday.
