GAINESVILLE — The Florida Gators have suspended seven players for tonight's season opener against Charleston Southern.

Defensive lineman Cece Jefferson is out for academic reasons. The other six are: Receiver Kadarius Toney, defensive lineman Kyree Campbell, defensive lineman Luke Ancrum, running back Adarius Lemons cornerback Brian Edwards and offensive lineman James Washington.

Toney and Campbell were among those involved with the tension with some Gainesville residents, including alleged gambler Devante "Tay Bang" Zachery. Toney was stopped with a loaded AR-15 in his car over the offseason (he was not arrested in the incident, and Edwards was also in the car).

Lemons, a Clearwater native, had multiple marijuana incidents in high school.
