UF still searching for a QB
With QB Kyle Trask (foot) apparently out for the year, Feleipe Franks will almost certainly be Florida's starter for the rest of the season. But it's still stunning that the No. 19 Gators' search for a successful long-term quarterback is ongoing since the end of the Tim Tebow era. Just don't ask former UF coach and current South Carolina coach Will Muschamp about it. "I've hit my quota," said Muschamp, whose Gamecocks will face Franks on Saturday.
Local of the week
Auburn WR Ryan Davis (Lakewood High)
With two catches against No. 5 Georgia, Davis will move past Courtney Taylor (153) for the most career receptions in school history. Not bad for a high school quarterback who became Pinellas County's all-time leading passer.
Eye on the NFL draft
Alabama OT Jonah Williams might be the Crimson Tide's top NFL prospect. So keep an eye on him against Mississippi State and its own star linemen, tackle Jeffery Simmons and end Montez Sweat. All three might end up as first-round picks.
Given Clemson's talent advantage, Boston College will have to get creative to try to score points. So keep an eye on WR Jeff Smith. Because he was a quarterback at Clearwater Central Catholic, he's a versatile athlete who's helpful on trick plays. That explains his stat line (four touchdown catches, one touchdown rush and one touchdown pass). If the Eagles can spring the upset, Smith will probably be a big reason why.
Throwing with the Bulls
Despite a rough stretch, USF QB Blake Barnett is still on track to become the first 3,000-yard passer in school history. It'll be tough for him to chip away at the remaining 600 yards this weekend. Cincinnati's pass defense is in the top five nationally in yards per attempt (5.3) and efficiency (99.02), which is a big reason why the Bearcats are among the top Group of Five contenders for a New Year's Six bowl game.
Blackman vs Francois
FSU hasn't said who will start at quarterback, so here's how Deondre Francois compares to James Blackman under coach Willie Taggart:
60.9 completion percentage
7.3 yards per attempt
64.7 completion percentage
10.0 yards per attempt
