College football Week 13 viewing guide: UF-FSU, War on I-4 and the Egg Bowl

A sneaky good game this weekend? Troy-Appalachian State, which has a pair of rising coaches.

Lamest time window: Saturday night. Friday evening has the better games, which makes Saturday your optimal time for holiday parties.

Thursday

7:30: No. 22 Mississippi State has a great defense and shaky offense. Ole Miss has an awesome offense and an awful defense. The Egg Bowl should be fun.

Friday

Noon: If the Ed Oliver-Major Applewhite drama isn't enough on its own, the winner of Houston-Memphis gets a trip to UCF in the AAC title game.

4:15: USF will try to send its winningest senior class ever out with a victory over No. 8 UCF.

8: If you thought the Rams-Chiefs game had a lot of points, wait until you see No. 12 West Virginia host No. 6 Oklahoma.

8:30: Is No. 7 Washington State finally ready to beat No. 16 Washington and win the Apple Cup (and Pac-12 North)?

Saturday

Noon: Unless you're a fan of Florida or Florida State, see whether Urban Meyer's No. 10 Buckeyes can keep dominating Jim Harbaugh's No. 4 Wolverines.

2:30: If your team is looking for a new head coach, check out Troy-Appalachian State. Neal Brown and Scott Satterfield are both in line for promotions, plus the victor will host the Sun Belt title game next week.

3:30: No way Auburn can knock off No. 1 Alabama … right?

7:30: Beating No. 8 LSU would be a huge way for Jimbo Fisher to end Year 1 at Texas A&M.

8: No. 3 Notre Dame can effectively claim its spot in the College Football Playoff and (maybe) end the Clay Helton era at USC in one performance.

10:15: If you're not asleep from the turkey overdose, No. 14 Utah State at No. 21 Boise State might be the best Group of Five game of the year.

Egg Bowl

Dan Mullen beat the Rebels in his first year at Mississippi State. His successor, Joe Moorhead, will be favored to do the same with a talented roster Mullen left him — if his Bulldogs can slow down Ole Miss WR A.J. Brown. He's already the Rebels' all-time leader in receiving yards (2,923) and needs two catches to pass Laquon Treadwell (82) for the school's single-season record.
