Jim McElwain is going to be a head coach again.

The former Florida coach will take over Central Michigan, the school announced Sunday. He spent this season coaching receivers at Michigan.

McElwain has other ties to the state; he served as an assistant at Michigan State from 2003-05.

McElwain won back-to-back SEC East titles in his first two years at UF before crumbling midway through the 2017 season. He and UF agreed to a $7.5 million buyout in November 2017.

Before heading to Gainesville, he went 22-16 in three seasons as the head coach at Colorado State.

He inherits a Chippewas program that went 1-11 last season under John Bonamego but had been to four consecutive bowl games.
