TAMPA — It's that time in training camp when scrimmages turn into skirmishes and sometimes erupt into fights between teammates.Panthers QB Cam Newton and CB Josh Norman came to blows on Monday. Jets QB Geno Smith was sucker-punched in the locker room Tuesday morning and will miss to 6-10 weeks with a broken jaw after being struck by LB IK Enemkpali , who was released. The Bucs had tempers flare in Tuesday's practice with DE George Johnson and RT Demar Dotson tangling for a few seconds. Neither player was injured."George had two days off so he was feeling good and my legs were feeling like they were stuck in the mud," Dotson said. "There wasn't anything that sparked it. George was just doing what he does. Tempers starting getting fired up. We talked about it afterwards. Hopefully, there was no hard feelings."It's just that Tampa heat. A lot of anger, a lot of pain built up."Bucs coach Lovie Smith dismissed the altercation as routine this time during training camp."Not much to say about it," Smith said. "Training camp. Not much more than 9-on-7 as far as I'm concerned. That's how it is every day in practice. We're intense. There's physical contact. Typical training camp."MURPH BACK ON TURF: Former Florida and Lakewood High WR Louis Murphy was activated from the non-football injury list and practiced for the first time in training camp Tuesday. With him out, rookies Kenny Bell and Rannell Hall have stood out along with second-year pro Robert Herron ."It's about making plays," Smith said. "Being noticed. Making the coaching staff give you more reps. Louis Murphy needed to come back. Of course, getting him some reps back into the mix a little bit, that's good. As we talked about a few days ago, a lot of the younger players have taken advantage of the reps they've been given and all you're trying to do right now is get yourself in position to know the play. We're not finishing plays out there. We're getting a little closer to letting guys finish plays."THIS AND THAT: The Bucs waived two rookie linebackers — Iowa's Quinton Alston , slowed by a hamstring injury in minicamp and again this week in training camp, was waived-injured, and former Tampa Bay Storm LB Sammuel Lamur , who joined the team last week, was waived after what GM Jason Licht described as an "extended tryout." The moves made room for DT Tony McDaniel and P Karl Schmitz . … G Logan Mankins was unable to finish practice because of illness Tuesday but fought through most of it. Matthew Masifilo took first-team reps at left guard. Times s taff writer Greg Auman contributed to this report.
