TAMPA — Bucs CB Brent Grimes suffered what coach Dirk Koetter called a "nasty-looking" cut to his right shin during Wednesday's practice, one that is expected to sideline him from playing in any of the four preseason games.
"I think he got a spike," Koetter said. "I think he'll be fine."
A video on the Instagram account of Grimes' wife, Miko, showed a deep gash down the front of his lower right leg. "No bone damage," Miko said in the video.
Grimes collided with another defensive back late in practice and was down for several minutes as trainers attended to the cut. He put weight on the leg as he stepped into a cart to ride into the Bucs' facility.
Koetter said that second-year pro Ryan Smith "is going to get a lot of snaps" in Friday's preseason opener against the Bengals, perhaps starting opposite Vernon Hargreaves.
