Football: Bishop McLaughlin 13, Shorecrest 7

SPRING HILL — In his first opportunity, new Bishop McLaughlin coach Jeff Swymer led the Hurricanes to victory. It helped that he and his team had former Wesley Chapel quarterback Scott Edwards, who seemed comfortable under center, to take the reins.

KEY DRIVE: Just before halftime, Hurricanes kicker Niko Savolidis nailed his second field goal to give Bishop McLaughlin a 13-0 lead. While the team was shut out in the second half, it was enough for the victory.

STAR OF THE GAME: Edwards scored the Hurricanes' lone touchdown when he broke off a 65-yard run in the second quarter.

STAT OF THE GAME: Savolidis nailed two field goals, one more than the program made in all of the 2014 season.
