WEEKI WACHEE — Central (2-4) came into Weeki Wachee (1-5) on a rainy Homecoming night for the Hornets and ran the ball straight through the defense. Bears running back De'vonta Smith had 30 carries for 202 yards on the night and helped take the "Battle of Hexam" trophy from the Hornets. Weeki quarterback Alec Cromie was intercepted late in the fourth quarter by Andre Reynolds on the first play of a drive that could have put his team in the lead.
Key drive: The Weeki Wachee offense was stopped on the goal line by Central just before halftime. The Hornets were given an extra untimed play and still could not convert.
Play of the game: Smith broke off a 38-yard run for a touchdown in the second quarter to put Central up 12-0.
Stars of the game: Smith had 30 carries for 202 yards and two touchdowns for Central. Bears quarterback Breon Wyatt completed 4 of 10 passes for 41 yards and ran the ball 12 times for 57 yards.
Stats of the game: Weeki Wachee quarterback Alec Cromie finished his night 4-for-19 passing for 26 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. His sole touchdown pass came on a fourth-down play to wide receiver Daytona Patterson. Cromie managed the damage of the depleted passing game by punting the ball six times for 244 yards.
