CLEARWATER — Clearwater (6-0, 3-0) went into its district game with Dixie Hollins (2-4, 1-2) determined to hold its first-place spot in Class 6A-9. The Tornadoes did just that thanks to a solid ground game (382 yards) and two touchdowns each from Jarius Williams (161 rushing yards) and Jacquez Jones (104).
Star of the game: Williams broke through the Rebels' defense to set up big-play touchdowns. During the second quarter, he ran 60 yards to set up Austin Day for a 10-yard touchdown. He followed with a 51-yard run in the third quarter, setting up Jones' 11-yard score.
Play of the game: During the third quarter, Dixie Hollins quarterback Dekovin Cann Jr. on the Rebels' own 20-yard line, got pushed back 10 yards before being tackled and fumbled the football. Clearwater's Charod Streater recovered the ball and took it in for a touchdown. That made the score 42-7 and started the running clock.
Stat of the game: The Tornadoes were charged with eight penalties, six of the them coming on offsides infractions. "The offsides penalties have been a problem for us in most of our games this season. That's been a small thing that continues to hurt us that we are trying to fix," Day said.
Final word: "We take every game seriously. If it's a district ball game, we are coming out to try win. I tell the kids every week, it's not about who we are playing it's about us. Discipline is going to show how far we go in the playoffs." — Clearwater coach Don Mesick
