TAMPA — Junior quarterback Cade Weldon threw for two touchdowns and rushed for another as Jefferson defeated King 33-0 in their kickoff classic Friday. The Dragons stormed out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter.
Key drive: Facing a third and long, Weldon connected with Mondreas Lofton on a screen pass that turned into a 51-yard gain and gave Jefferson a first-and-goal at the King 1. Two play later, Weldon hit Jabreel Stephens in the back of the end zone to give Jefferson a 20-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Stars of the game: Lofton rushed for touchdowns on 32 and 74 yards in the first half. … Jean Marcellus recovered two fumbles in the first quarter that led to touchdowns.
Stat of the game: King had six turnovers (five fumbles, one interception) in the first half.
