ST. PETERSBURG — Lakewood started out a little flat in a key district matchup Thursday night against Boca Ciega. Midway through the first quarter, the Spartans jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Ryan Davis connected with Adrian Adams for a 9-yard touchdown. But Derrick Cook hooked up with Raeshon Dunbar for an 8-yard TD to tie the score at 7 in the second quarter. After the teams traded scores again, Davis later used a pair of long touchdown runs to break open a tight game.

Key drives: On a third and long in the third quarter, Davis dropped back to pass and found an opening, and it was off to the races for a 60-yard run. In the fourth quarter, Davis would repeat the same feat, going 55 yards to pay dirt.

Play of the game: Cook dropped back to pass to a would-be open receiver in the third, then Stevie Richardson stepped in for a 25-yard interception return for a TD to give the Spartans a cushion.

Stars of the game: Davis rushed for 147 yards and two touchdowns, and threw for 133 and a touchdown. Adams also caught five passes for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Stat of the game: Both teams combined for 21 penalties.
