DOVER — Newsome scored touchdowns on its first two drives and never let up, defeating Strawberry Crest 41-8 for its first win of the season. Newsome only attempted four passes the entire game and had touchdowns from five different players. Key drives: After forcing a three-and-out to open the game, Newsome went 43 yards in three plays to open scoring. Patrick Jolly ran 27 yards to put Newsome up 7-0. After another three-and-out, Newsome went 66 yards in nine plays to lead 14-0 on a Zach Kyle 5-yard run. Stars of the Game: Jolly led the Newsome rushing attack with 114 yards and one touchdown on just 10 carries. He also caught Newsome's only completed pass of the game for 11 yards. Kyle had 73 yards rushing and two touchdowns on eight carries. Stat of the Game: Newsome's defense, featuring a Will Proctor interception and sacks by Joseph Abreu and Greg Preseau, didn't allow a first down until three minutes to go in the first half. It also didn't allow Strawberry Crest to cross midfield until late in the fourth quarter when Jamar Hart caught a 52-yard touchdown pass from Braxton Plunk for the Chargers' lone score. Final word: With Hillsborough County schools being closed on Thursday and Friday due to Hurricane Hermine, teams weren't able to have their normal preparations leading up to the game. Despite the setback, Newsome coach Ken Hiscock was happy with how his team got ready. "We still had to prepare for a game (tonight). I was very impressed with our players and how they came out focused," Hiscock said.
