PLANT CITY — Plant City scored on the ground, through the air, and on special teams in a 19-7 defeat of Riverview. The Raiders open the regular season next week at Armwood while the Sharks open at home versus Chamberlain.
Key drive: After Riverview sophomore Zach Reddin returned a blocked punt for a touchdown to tie the score at 7, Plant City turned to workhorse running back Markese Hargrove. With the Raiders starting on their 36, the shifty senior rushed on three consecutive plays including a 17-yard touchdown to cap the drive and put Plant City up for good.
Stars of the game: Hargrove finished with 13 carries for 122 yards. … Antoine Thompson opened the scoring by hauling in a 39-yard touchdown from Corey King. … Tydre Ward made several nice moves in the open field before darting down the sideline en route to a 73-yard punt return for the final score.
