TAMPA — Tampa Catholic got its first shutout of the season and a 14-point fourth quarter in a Class 3A, District 4 contest. The Crusaders (2-4, 1-1) stretched their defensive scoreless streak to six quarters by limiting Frostproof to 121 yards and five first downs. The Bulldogs (3-2, 0-1) didn't run a play in Tampa Catholic territory in the first half, and never got inside the Crusader 42. Sophomore quarterback Kevin Knox threw for 154 of his 186 yards in the first half as Tampa Catholic went up 13-0. The biggest play came with 4:17 left before intermission when Knox hit Darius Corbett for a 65-yard touchdown to spark a 13-point quarter.
Play of the game: Austin Speck intercepted Kaleel Gaines with 8:41 left and returned it 32 yards to the Frostproof 26, setting up a 5-yard touchdown run by Devan Barrett for a 20-0 lead.
Stars of the game: Corbett had five receptions for 104 yards. … Knox completed 12 of 18 passes with no interceptions.
Stat of the game: Tampa Catholic held Frostproof to 23 yards on 18 plays and one first down in the first half.
