Special teams mastermind Frank Beamer had to appreciate the Hokies' blocked punt return for a touchdown late in the first half. Beamer Ball lives on at Virginia Tech.

A crazy stat from ESPN's Chris Fallica: The last time Miami and FSU both opened 0-1 was 1975. Both should get wins this weekend, but their Oct. 6 meeting at Hard Rock Stadium has lost some sizzle.

It'll get lost in the final score, but QB Deondre Francois looked decent in his return from a knee injury. The problem is that he spent most of the game running for his life against a Hokies defense that was wrecked by offseason attrition. His three interceptions were costly, too.
