FSU football picked to finish third in ACC Atlantic

Miami is the No. 2 team in the Coastal, and the projected winner is really, really obvious.

In the most predictable story of the season, Clemson is the media’s pick to win the ACC this season.

The Tigers received 170 of the 173 first-place votes to win the league at last week’s ACC Football Kickoff in Charlotte, N.C. Syracuse got two votes, and Virginia received the final one.

Florida State was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Division behind Clemson and Syracuse.

The Coastal is a lot more up in the air. Every team received at least one first-place vote to win that predictably unpredictable division. Virginia is the consensus favorite, followed by Miami, Virginia Tech, Pitt, Duke, North Carolina and Georgia Tech.

I wasn’t at ACC media days this year, and no one has asked me for my thoughts. But I’ll also pick Clemson to win the ACC, and third for FSU feels about right. As far as the Coastal? I’ll take Virginia Tech for now, but I reserve the right to change my mind between now and Aug. 24.
