The Florida Gators’ five-star recruit drought has ended.

UF announced Friday that linebacker Brenton Cox has transferred from Georgia.

The 6-foot-4, 247-pound Georgia native recorded 20 tackles as a true freshman for the Bulldogs and started against Texas in the Sugar Bowl. Before that, he was the nation’s No. 23 overall recruit in the 2018 class.

Cox was arrested on a complaint of marijuana possession in April and was reportedly dismissed from Georgia earlier this month.

NCAA rules typically require transfers to sit out a season, so it’s unclear whether he’ll be eligible immediately. Regardless, he provides an infusion of talent to a team that did not have a five-star recruit on its roster.
