The funeral services for former NFL receiver Reche Caldwell will be held this weekend in Tampa.

His wake will be held Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Center For Manifestation, 3102 E. Lake Ave. That church will also host his funeral service Saturday at noon before his burial at the Garden of Memories cemetery.

Caldwell was a two-sport star at Jefferson High and was named one of the area’s top 100 athletes of last century by the Tampa Tribune. He went on to become a 1,000-yard receiver at the University of Florida before spending six seasons in the NFL. He was Tom Brady’s top target for the Patriots in 2006.

Caldwell was killed in a late-night shooting in his hometown on June 6. He was 41.

Police said the act did not appear to be random, and his mother said she believes he was set up. The authorities have not provided a recent update on the case and have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477), report anonymously online at www.crimestopperstb.com or send a mobile tip using the P3 Tips mobile application.
