Heisman watch: Is Florida’s Kyle Trask the new favorite?

With Kyle Trask continuing to star with the Florida Gators, here’s our latest look at how he compares to the rest of the field.

Florida Gators quarterback Kyle Trask continued his Heisman Trophy-worthy season last week against Arkansas by throwing as many touchdown passes (six) as incompletions. That performance made him the betting favorite, according to one oddsmaker, for the most prestigious individual award in the nation.

Here’s an updated look at how Trask measures up against the rest of the field:

Yards per attempt: 10.3 (T-eighth)

Passing efficiency: 197.52 (sixth)

Rushing: 29 attempts, 78 yards, 0 TDs

Total yards per game: 374.8 (third)

Of note: Trask’s 28 touchdown passes are five more than any other SEC passer has ever thrown through six games; Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa had 23 at that point last year.

Of note: Fields has as many incompletions (11) as touchdown passes but had his game called off last week because of an outbreak at Maryland.

Of note: Lawrence missed the Tigers' past two games because of a positive coronavirus test but is set to return this week at Florida State.

Of note: Assuming Wilson can lead BYU past winless North Alabama on Saturday, the Cougars will be 9-0 for only the fourth time ever (and the first since 2001).

Rushing: 18 attempts, minus-9 yards, 1 TD

Total yards per game: 364.5 (T-fourth)

Of note: Alabama quarterbacks have only nine games of at least 400 passing yards in the program’s storied history. Three of them are by Jones this year.

Miami quarterback D’Eriq King is tied for 10th nationally with 17 touchdown passes and has rejuvenated the top-12 Hurricanes. … Clemson running back Travis Etienne has scored 12 touchdowns and is averaging 140 total yards per game. … In addition to Jones, Alabama running back Najee Harris (second nationally with 14 touchdown runs) and receiver DeVonta Smith (fifth in the country with 126.5 yards per game) will be in the mix, too.
