GAINESVILLE — Florida Gators star Kyle Pitts will not play tonight against LSU.
Pitts, the top tight end in the nation and one of the best players at any position, participated during warmups but was scratched because of an unspecified lingering injury.
Kemore Gamble was announced as the probable starter in Pitts’ place.
No. 6 UF likely won’t need Pitts against the 3-5 Tigers, who have a depleted roster because of injuries and opt-outs. The Tigers are expected to start a true freshman quarterback —Max Johnson, the son of the Bucs’ Super Bowl winner, Brad Johnson.
Two of UF’s top safeties, Shawn Davis and Rashad Torrence, are also unavailable, as is running back Nay’Quan Wright.
