Florida Gators offensive coordinator Brian Johnson is leaving the program to become the Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterbacks coach. Yahoo! Sports first reported the move.
Johnson, 33, is one of the rising stars in the sport and interviewed for head coaching jobs at South Carolina and Boise State during this cycle. He was elevated from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator last offseason and made a noticeable difference at UF.
The Gators finished 13th in scoring (39.8 points per game) and eighth in yards per play (7.3) last season. Johnson, who played for UF head coach Dan Mullen at Utah, also helped Kyle Trask blossom from a longtime backup to a Heisman Trophy finalist.
He has previously served as the offensive coordinator at Houston (2017) and as an assistant at Mississippi State (2014-16) and Utah (2010-13).
The Gators have other experienced coordinators on their staff. Assistants John Hevesy and Billy Gonzales were co-coordinators in Mullen’s first two seasons as head coach (2018-19).
