Florida’s path to upsetting Alabama, according to ESPN’s Chris Fowler

“I wouldn’t expect them to stumble in there, but I also don’t give anybody the W going into The Swamp automatically.”

ESPN’s Chris Fowler chuckled at the question: Do you see a path to No. 1 Alabama losing this year?

“Isn’t that amazing?” Fowler said Thursday morning during a Zoom call with reporters. “That’s where we are. Is there a path to a potential loss for this team?”

If there’s a path to No. 11 Florida knocking off the Crimson Tide on Saturday, Fowler said it involves the Gators’ defense rattling sophomore Bryce Young. Alabama’s first-year starter hasn’t looked inexperienced, throwing seven touchdown passes and zero interceptions in wins over Miami and Mercer.

“If Florida’s defense can be nasty and aggressive and force him to think quicker than he has been and force him to react and make it tough on the offense, I think the environment can certainly play a part,” Fowler said.

The Gators are in the top 20 nationally in sacks (3½ per game) and will be playing in front of a sold-out Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in one of the Gators’ biggest home games this century.

Fowler, however, is not predicting an upset against the reigning national champion. UF is a two-touchdown underdog at home, while ‘Bama shows no signs of slowing down.

“I wouldn’t expect (Alabama) to stumble in there,” Fowler said, “but I also don’t give anybody the W going into The Swamp automatically.”
