Cambridge Christian senior Latanna Stone shot a second-round 73 on Wednesday to finish tied for second overall in the Class A state tournament at the Mission Inn and Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills. Her two-round total was 67-73—140. Meiyi Yin of Orlando First Academy shot 3-under 69 and was 8 under overall to win the tournament by four shots.
Georgia Ruffolo of Academy of the Holy Names shot a second straight 73 and finished with 2-over 146, which was tied for 11th.
In the girls team tournament, Tampa Prep shot a second-round 325 for a two-round total of 657. Helena Noel shot a second straight 77 and finished with 154. Lily Berry shot 76 for a 155 total. Julie Zhang shot 77 and also ended with a 155 total. The Terrapins were eighth overall.
Berkeley Prep finished 15th with a 727. Kavya Ajjarapu was the low scorer with a 74-79—153. First Academy won the tournament with a 580.
The Tampa Prep boys team finished 14th in the 16-team field with a total of 665. Qi Liu was the low scorer with a 76-74—150, which was good enough for a tie for 16th. Windermere Prep won the boys team championship with a 591.
Christian Gilitzer of Carrollwood Day followed his opening round 81 with a 79 on Wednesday to finish in 47th out of 96 golfers. Shorecrest's Bill Bircher shot a second-round 84 for a total of 177, which put him in a tie for 79th.
John Dubois of Orlando First Academy shot a 70-72—142 and won in a playoff to earn the individual title.
The Class 2A tournament begins on Friday. The Zephyrhills, Jesuit and Sunlake boys teams have qualified. Nick Gabrelcik of Mitchell, Panormitis Karatzas of Tarpon Springs and Aidan Holmes of River Ridge qualified as individuals.
The Sunlake, King and Nature Coast girls teams are in the tournament. Emillie Alderman of Zephyrhills will play as an individual.
