TAMPA — Jefferson wide receiver Ahmarean Brown played it cool in front of family, friends and faculty Wednesday afternoon in the school's main lobby. After decommitting from Maryland, Brown was keeping his college choice a secret as long as possible.
He said a few words of gratitude, then reached underneath the table and proudly donned a Georgia Tech hat. Like Maryland, the Yellow Jackets underwent a coaching change. But a visit with new head coach Geoff Collins convinced Brown that Atlanta was the place to be.
"I went up there and it just felt good," Brown said. "I felt then that I needed to make the decision."
He was so confident about Georgia Tech that he bought the hat and a T-shirt at the school's bookstore before he left town.
Brown caught 38 passes and scored seven touchdowns for Jefferson as a senior. Under for Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson, the Yellow Jackets rarely threw the ball. That style may change under Collins, which puts Brown in a good spot.
"I really liked Coach Collins," Brown said. "That was what did it for me."
Defensive back Cori Fant also signed with the University of South Dakota.
