After the first round of the Class 3A and Class A state tennis tournament, here is who survived to play another day:Freedom’s girls team won its first-round match in the Class 3A tournament, defeating Tallahassee Chiles 5-2. Julianna Gibson won at No. 1 singles, Maya Youssef at No. 2 singles, Jehanne Caudell at No. 4 singles and Zoe Ruszin at No. 5 singles. Gibson and Youssef won No. 1 doubles.The Patriots will play Gulf Coast at 8 a.m. at Sanlando Park in the semifinals. West Boca Raton and Doral Academy also advanced.Pasco’s Logan Haga won his first two matches in the Class 3A boys tournament. He eased past Tate’s Aaron Haberson 6-0, 6-0 in the first match, then defeated top-seeded Christopher Mendivil of Palm Beach Dwyer 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 in the round of 16.Haga will play Diego Belfort of Belen Jesuit in the semifinals Thursday. RELATED: Jesuit falls to Miami Gulliver Prep in Class 2A final In the boys Class A individual tournament, Berkeley Prep’s Andrei Leonov and Matthew Thomas defeated Jacob Bruschayt and Anay Patel of Winter Haven All Saints', 6-0, 6-3 in the opening round of doubles play. Leonov and Thomas are the top seeds.Leonov is also still alive in the individual singles tournament.Courtney Piltaver of Land O’Lakes defeated Largo’s Jasmine Blair 6-4, 7-5 in the Class 3A girls individual singles quarterfinal. Piltaver will play No. 2 seed Shaianne Looney of Oakleaf in the semifinals. Pittaver and Kathy Liu, and Blair and Alexa Albinson also lost their first-round doubles matches.Largo’s boys team lost in the first round of the Class 3A tournament to Niceville, 4-1. The Packers got their lone point from No. 1 singles player Jonathan Lee, who won 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 10-6.In the Class A girls tournament, Berkeley Prep fell in the first round to Carrollton, 4-2. Jaela Bandes won at No. 1 singles, and Bandes and Victoria Ramakrishnan won No. 1 doubles for the Bucs. For the boys, Academy at the Lakes was swept by Ransom Everglades.In the boys Class 3A individual tournament, Caelen Arreola and Takashi Xu of Land O’Lakes lost their quarterfinal doubles match 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.Jesuit’s Sebastian Solano was the Class 2A overall singles runnerup. Academy of the Holy Names’ Caitlin Neal was the girls Class 2A overall singles runnerup. Both played for a third straight day Wednesday.
