Pinellas Park linebacker Alvin Mathis committed to the University of Miami, making the announcement via Twitter on Monday afternoon. He is the first linebacker recruit for the Hurricanes in the Class of 2020.“After talking with my Mom, Dad, & Uncle for the past couple of weeks it seems like I have found a place I can call home," Mathis tweeted.Miami has been making a push for area athletes. The Hurricanes also offered Largo four-star recruit Jayion McCluster, but he committed to Florida State last week. Mathis, considered a three-star recruit by most recruiting services, had 86 total tackles as a junior, and also two sacks and five fumble recoveries.The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder likely will be the first of two big-time Division I-A recruits for Pinellas Park. Four-star running back Lawrance Toafili is being recruited by Florida, Florida State, Auburn, Ohio State and Michigan, among others.
