Mackenzie Tichenor has resigned as Berkeley Prep’s volleyball coach after three seasons. Tichenor, the daughter of longtime Berkeley Prep coach Randy Dagostino, notified coaches and players of her decision Monday.
She is a 2012 graduate of Berkeley Prep and was a member of three state championship teams from 2010-12. She played volleyball at the University of Florida and returned to Berkeley Prep in 2016 to become an assistant coach along with her future husband, Eugene.
Tichenor took over for her father in 2017 and won a state championship, the school’s 16th in volleyball. Randy Dagostino won 15 titles in his 29-year career as head coach.
“It is important for you all to know how special this program is to us and how incredibly difficult of a decision this was for us to make," Tichenor said in a statement released by the school. ''We truly do look at all of you as our family and are sad we have to step away from such an amazing program.”
Tichenor cited an increase in her professional life as well as a desire to start a family. She was 56-32 in her three seasons. The Bucs were 15-14 last season and lost in the region quarterfinals to Bishop McLaughlin.
The school is currently conducting a search for a new head coach.
