Wiregrass Ranch rising senior Rocco Becht, one of the area’s top prep quarterbacks from the Class of 2022, has made a verbal pledge to Iowa State.
A three-star prospect per 247Sports, Becht announced his decision Friday morning on social media. He has received offers from Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Marshall and Toledo, among others.
He plans to enroll at ISU in January.
The son of former NFL tight end Anthony Becht (who played three seasons with the Bucs), Rocco Becht has passed for more than 3,500 yards over the last two seasons, totaling 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in that span (according to MaxPreps). He has completed more than 52 percent of his passes (215-for-408) in those two years.
Among his career highlights: six TD passes in a 41-21 victory at River Ridge last season, tying a Pasco County single-game record shared by four other players.
Should he honor his pledge and sign with the Cyclones, Becht will join a roster teeming with bay area talent. The current ISU roster features defensive backs Kym-Mani King (Mitchell), T.J. Tampa (Lakewood) and Anthony Johnson Jr. (St. Petersburg); receivers Ezeriah Anderson (Armwood) and Aidan Bitter (Steinbrenner); and tailback Deon Silas (Steinbrenner).
