I'm a little surprised Victor Hedman returned Tuesday after missing five games with a lower body injury. He was a game-time decision after participating in morning skate, and I figured it was a walk-through and he would get one more game off. But when one of the top defenseman in the league says he can play, he plays.
The matchup of two of the top goalies in the league never happened when Andrei Vasilevskiy and Connor Helleybuyck got the night off. Both have played a lot and had busy weekends in Tampa during All-Star Weekend. A day off now helps keep them as fresh as possible since both teams expect long postseason runs.
Good to see D Mikhail Sergachev back in the lineup. The rookie, a healthy scratch in the last two games, probably needed a mental and physical break. He's having a great year during his first full season, but he was bound to struggle some, maybe hit a wall. A couple of days off before the All-Star Break probably helped.
