Did Canucks tamper with Stamkos? NHL investigating

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The NHL is reviewing whether to penalize the Canucks for tampering after general manager Jim Benning expressed interest in acquiring players under contract, including Lightning captain Steven Stamkos.

"I have received a number of concerns and not solely from the teams involved," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told reporters during the second day of the draft on Saturday.

Daly added that he spoke to Benning and Canucks president Trevor Linden. The Canucks confirmed that the league contacted them.

Stamkos will be an unrestricted free agent Friday and is now in the midst of a five-day window in which other teams could talk to him about a potential deal.

The potential discipline would range from a fine or losing a draft pick.

Benning told a Vancouver radio station Thursday that he intended to contact Stamkos' agent about the Tampa Bay center's interest in Vancouver.

Sabres' Kane investigated: Buffalo police are investigating an allegation that Sabres forward Evander Kane physically harassed two women Friday at a downtown bar, the Associated Press reported. Buffalo's WIVB-TV first reported the investigation. Sabres GM said Tim Murray said, "I don't know all the details," the Buffalo News reported. In March, a three-month investigation led prosecutors to rule Kane would not face a sexual assault charge because there was no evidence to support the allegation.

Bourque arrest: Former Bruins star Ray Bourque was arrested on suspicion of DWI, the Boston Globe reported. According to Andover (Mass.) police Lt. Cecilia Blais, Bourque, 55, was involved in a two-vehicle crash at about 11:30 p.m. Friday. No injuries were reported.

Kings: Forward Trevor Lewis agreed to a four-year extension. Canada's Sportsnet reported that it was an $8 million deal.

Dealing: There were several trades on the second and final day of the draft:

• The Sabres got defenseman Dmitri Kulikov from the Panthers in a deal also involving a swap of second-round picks, with Buffalo moving up to No. 33 from No. 38. Florida got defenseman Mark Pysyk and the Sabres' third-round pick, 89th overall. At No. 33, Buffalo selected Swedish-born center Rasmus Asplund.

• The Blue Jackets acquired defenseman Scott Harrington and a conditional pick in the 2017 draft from the Maple Leafs for left wing Kerby Rychel.

• The Rangers got defenseman Nick Holden from the Avalanche for a fourth-round pick in 2017.

• The Stars sent goaltender Jack Campbell to the Kings for defenseman Nick Ebert in a swap of American prospects.

• The Penguins sent right wing Beau Bennett to New Jersey for a third-round choice, which Pittsburgh used to take defenseman Connor Hall.
