ST. PETERSBURG — Twice in the first half, Northside Christian (2-6, 2-2) took two-score leads. And each time they reached that advantage, Admiral Farragut (5-5 2-2) responded with a touchdown. With 18 seconds left in the first half, the Blue Jackets scored to go up by one and finished with a 35-33 win on Friday.

Key plays: In the fourth quarter, Northside Christian stopped Admiral Farragut on a fourth-down pass play well into Mustangs territory. That gave the Mustangs the ball at their own 24 and the chance to regain the lead. But on the last play of that drive, the Blue Jackets recovered a fumble inside their own 5 yard line and gave their offense a chance to run out the clock.

Key drives: Before its late fumble, Northside Christian had gone 73 yards and appeared on its way to regaining the lead and perhaps getting the win. Admiral Farragut's second-half touchdown came after the Blue Jackets used up most of the third-quarter with a lengthy 15-play drive.

Play of the game: Northside Christian made it to the Admiral Farragut 3 yard line late in the game. On a running play to the left, RB Marcus Hooks was unable to secure the handoff and the Blue Jackets recovered to preserve their lead and get the win.

Stars of the game: RB Khalan Tolson had three of Admiral Farragut's five TDs. He ran for scores of 37 and 18 yards, and caught a 63-yard TD pass that gave the Blue Jackets a lead they would maintain for the rest of the game. QB Kashish Cordova passed for 224 yards and two TDs. … Hooks scored on receptions of four and 36 yards, and threw a 4-yard TD pass to WR Corey Yawn. Hooks also had 20 carries for 103 yards. QB Tyler Rhodes had 280 yards passing and four touchdown passes.

Key stat: The teams scored eight touchdowns in the first half alone.

Final word: "It was a good win. Both teams played really hard." — Admiral Farragut coach Rick Kravitz.
