GULFPORT — Boca Ciega opened up what had been a close game at the half, scoring three touchdowns in the third quarter en route to a 52-28 victory over Northeast.

The win is the Pirates' sixth in a row after dropping their first two games of the year. They'll go for seven straight with a matchup at home next week against Clearwater.

With Boca Ciega up 34-21 in the third, Pirates RB Chris Phillips returned a Northeast punt 85 yards into the end zone, only to have it called back on a holding penalty. On the next play, Alfonso Franklin scorched the Northeast defense again and ran 68 yards to the Vikings' 17. A few plays later, he crossed the goal line from the 6.

Phillips added a 1-yard scoring run that was set up by Taffrey Peterman's 41-yard pass to Deven Foster, making it 46-21. Carl Collins had the Pirates' final score, a 15-yard run with less than eight minutes remaining.

The Pirates had gone ahead 14-0 in the first quarter on Phillips' TDs of 66 and 20 yards.

The Vikings cut that lead in half when they drove 75 yards and QB Craig Richardson scored on a 3-yard run with 7:15 to go in the third =.

After Franklin scored from the Boca Ciega 6, a 57-yard pass from Richardson to Xavier McDonald set up Qezzy Guyden's 1-yard touchdown. Guyden had his second TD of the quarter on a 90-yard kickoff return that made it a 26-21 game in favor of Bogie at the break.

Richardson finished 4-of-7 for 84 yards and one passing TD to go along with his rushing score. Guyden carried 26 times for 105 yards, one rushing TD, one TD reception and his kickoff return.

Peterman completed 12 of 16 attempts for 245 yards. Teammate Franklin ran 15 times for 169 yards and three scores. Phillips had four TDs, and rushed for 135 yards on 12 carries. He nearly had two more scores on returns, including a 93-yarder that was called back for holding in the fourth quarter.

"This team is the closest team I've coached in five years," said Boca Ciega coach Max Smith. "They love each other."
