Lightning sign 2018 third-round pick Dmitry Semykin

The defenseman had been playing in his native Russia, mostly for SKA-1946 of the juniors-level MHL.

TAMPA ― The Lightning on Thursday signed 2018 third-round draft pick Dmitry Semykin to a three-year entry-level contract starting next season.

Semykin, 20, is a 6-foot-3, 201-pound defenseman who was known at the time for his scoring potential and his penalty minutes.

He has played the last two seasons in his native Russia, mostly with SKA-1946 of the juniors-level MHL. He moved up to play 13 games with SKA-Neva of the VHL, a minor league to the KHL, which is the country’s top pro league.

Semykin played 44 games for SKA-1946 in 2019-20, collecting nine goals and 24 points and logging 41 penalty minutes. He played in two postseason games. He also played in three games with SKA-Neva this season.
