Anthony Cirelli out against Panthers, Steven Stamkos remains on COVID-19 list

SUNRISE — The Lightning are without two of their top forwards for Saturday night’s game against the Panthers at the BB&T Center, their final game of a four-game road trip:

• Center Anthony Cirelli is out with an upper-body injury and is week to week, the team said. Cirelli left the ice favoring his right arm in the third period of Thursday’s 5-2 loss to the Panthers after absorbing a hit from Florida center Aleksander Barkov. He did not skate Saturday.

• Captain Steven Stamkos remained on the COVID-19 protocol list after being placed on it Friday. Stamkos tweeted Friday that he suspected he had had a false positive test result. If that is the case, he should come off the list in the next few days. Players must provide two consecutive negative tests over a 48-hour stretch to come off the list. Stamkos is unable to practice, travel or play in games while on the list.

• No other Lightning player went on the protocol list Saturday, which is a good sign that no other players have been affected. It’s still something to keep an eye on over the next few days.
