Scottie Barnes answers questions during an interview after being selected fourth overall by the Toronto Raptors during the first round of the NBA draft Thursday in New York.
Toronto passed on Gonzaga’s Jalen Suggs, who was viewed as a potential replacement for free agent Kyle Lowry.
“That’s never been done in Toronto, I don’t care who’s coming into Toronto,” Masai Ujiri said.

Fred VanVleet had 27 points and 13 assists to lead Toronto in his return after missing eight games with a sore hip.
