How low can they go? Rays Tuesday ‘crowd’ was lowest in majors this season

Rays announced attendance of 5,786 was smaller than gatherings in Miami and Baltimore.

The announced attendance of 5,786 for Tuesday’s game against the Blue Jays was the smallest ever at the Trop for a Rays game in 22 seasons of play.

It also was the lowest for any game in the majors this season.

Marlins 5,934 vs, Mets April 2

Orioles 6,585 vs. A’s April 6

Reds 7,799 vs Brewers April 11

Athletics 8.073 vs. Rangers April 22

Pirates 8,523 vs. Reds April 4

It is the smallest crowd in the majors since July 11, when the Miami Marlins had 5,265 for a game against the Brewers, and three other crowds smaller than Tuesday at the Trop.

The previous low at the Trop was 6,509 for a Sept. 5, 2017 game with Hurricane Irma approaching.

There were two games at the Trop that drew smaller crowds. That was in 2017, when a Rangers-Astros series was shifted from Houston to the Trop due to hurricane-related issues. They had games with announced attendance of 3,485 on Aug. 29 and 3,385 on Aug. 31.
