For starters: Rays’ road woes tend to resurface vs. Yankees

Tampa Bay has been solid away from home, especially this season, unless New York is in the mix.

NEW YORK — With a loss tonight at Yankee Stadium, the Rays will have been defeated in 14 of their past 15 series in the Bronx.

Considering how well the Rays have played on the road this season — they are 22-8 on the road in games not against the Yankees — their struggles here have been uncharacteristic for this year’s club.

Weather could be a factor tonight. As of 4:30 p.m, the tarp was on the field at Yankee Stadium and onfield batting practice was canceled for both teams. But the game was still set to be played.

The Rays’ lineup that is slated to face Yankees starter J.A. Happ will have a different look, with Travis d’Arnaud leading off. Yandy Diaz is out of the starting lineup for the second straight game.

The Yankees’ Giancarlo Stanton will make his first start tonight since returning from the IL.
