Rays manager Kevin Cash penciled Avisail Garcia in center field for the second straight day, this time replacing the injured Kevin Kiermaier. Blake Snell hopes to be the stopper and end a 5-game losing streak for the Rays on Sunday.

Kevin Kiermaier landed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb sprain on Sunday. Outfielder Guillermo Heredia, recalled from Triple-A Durham, took a 6 a.m. flight to join the Rays at Tropicana Field.

Infielder Matt Duffy, working his way back from back and hamstring injuries, homered on Saturday in what should be his last rehab start with the class Triple-A Durham Bulls. He is flying into the Tampa Bay area on Sunday to rejoin the team. Cash said that Duffy could be activated for the upcoming series against Boston.

“He’s taken the long road back,” Cash said of Duffy, who has yet to appear in a major league game this season. “I’m excited to have him back.”

Cash said that infielder Brandon Lowe is also making progress as he rehabs from a right shin contusion. The primary second baseman is taking ground balls, but he is still dealing with soreness.

“His steps seem really calculated,” Cash said of Lowe. “It doesn’t look like he’s quite where he needs to be mobility-wise.”
